As school resumes in the fall of 2020, many educators are working to adjust to virtual or hybrid instructional models, and data analysis is not top of mind. Additionally, many high priority metrics from previous years are not relevant in the current landscape.
Below are a few suggestions for engaging educators and encouraging data-driven decision making this fall.
- Give your dashboards a makeover. Temporarily hide irrelevant metrics (e.g. Suspensions during remote learning) or change the order of your pillars. Consider using copied metrics to get more granular data right on your district profile. Not sure what’s possible? Find more information here: Aligning Schoolzilla to Your District Strategy
- If schools are not taking attendance every day during distance learning, consider using the Absences metric rather than attendance percentages on Our Students. Since most student information systems mark students as present by default, you’ll see less fluctuation on the Absences metric.
- Decide which metrics are most important this fall – diagnostic assessments? Real-time course grades? Custom engagement data? - and create a view to share with school leaders and teachers. Teachers can review this data during their PLCs, and create their own Student Intervention Groups to track students’ progress.
Once you’ve revamped your dashboards and shared a View (or Views) with educators in your district, consider creating a Scavenger Hunt Activity to get everyone engaged! Prizes are optional. If someone needs a “cheat sheet” try our Quick Start Guides for Leaders and Teachers.
