The intervention data block tracks usage data for any type of program for which there is a dosage (i.e. minutes logged, percent progress etc.). For example, this data block can house information captured from online learning programs that collect data on the number of minutes students spend in the program and the progress students make in the program’s curriculum.
The data block is named "intervention" rather than "blended" to acknowledge that more than just data collected from blended learning programs might fit into this structure.
What can the data block do?
- Evaluate implementation fidelity and usage goals at the district, school, classroom, and student level
- Monitor usage measures including:
- time on task
- percent score
- percent progress
- lessons/ activities completed
- number of logins - View data at multiple levels of granularity
- activity/ objective
- day
- week/month - Answer questions like these:
- Are students meeting usage goals?
- Are blended learning programs being implemented with fidelity?
- How does usage vary across schools, classrooms, demographics?
Is there anything the data block can’t do?
- No external metrics
- No effectiveness metrics
- Answer questions like these:
- How does ST Math usage affect NWEA MAP math scores?
- Which of my blended programs is more effective at raising state test scores?
Measures and Granularity in the data block
The blended learning and intervention space is ever evolving. Content in exports varies widely across vendors and also the content provided by vendors changes frequently. Below provides a snapshot of the variability in data provided across vendors:
Measures | Granularity | |

iReady |

ST Math |

What data sources make up the Intervention Data Block?
- Intervention Usage - Activity (factInterventionUsage_Activity): This data source is best used to look at student usage by activity. It can answer a question like: In iReady, what was Frank’s percent score on the fraction’s activity?
- Intervention Usage - Day (factInterventionUsage_Day): This data source is best used to look at student usage by day. It can answer a question like: In Achieve3000, what was Martin’s total time on task on Monday?
- Intervention Usage - Aggregates (factInterventionUsage_Aggregates): This data source is best used to look at student usage each week or month. It can answer a question like: In ST Math, how much time, on average, did Stephanie log this week?
- Intervention Usage - Login Counts (factInterventionLoginCounts): This data source is best used to look at student logins at home and school over a period of time. It can answer a question like: How many students logged in at school last week?
Can different connectors load multiple tableau data sources?
Yes, it is possible, but it depends on the information received from the vendor. For example, the Achieve3000 connector loads the Intervention Usage - Day and the Intervention Usage - Aggregates data sources because it is possible to aggregate data collected from each day and store it for each week in the Aggregates data source. On the other hand, you can only use the Intervention Usage - Aggregates data source for ST Math because the data is not reported out by day. Please see the connector documentation to determine what data source makes the most sense for the connector.
Are there any report performance considerations to keep in mind if a connector can use more than data source?
The Intervention Usage - Aggregates data source will usually provide the best report performance.
What does one unit/ row of data look like?
Intervention Usage - Activity
one row per student per activity and date or date range
Intervention Usage - Day
one row per student per activity and date
Intervention Usage - Aggregates
one row per student per activity and date range (weekly or monthly)
Intervention Usage - Login Counts
one row per student per activity per login (home vs. school) and date range
What do the data sources look like?
The Intervention Activity, Day, and Aggregates fact tables are interchangeable.
